Kaminokuni - the Spirit of Japan

Meet the Founder
I am Mariko, the founder of Kaminokuni.
The name Kaminokuni means “the Land of the Gods,” reflecting a Japanese perspective influenced by Shinto traditions — the belief that sacred spirits exist throughout nature and everyday life.
Born and raised in Osaka, I spent my formative teenage years studying in Kyoto near Fushimi Inari Taisha, a place that quietly shaped my appreciation of Japan’s traditions and values.
After spending several years working in Japan, I embarked on my journey abroad, where I lived, studied, and traveled throughout Canada, China, Taiwan, and many other countries for eight years. These experiences, including learning English and Mandarin Chinese, taught me the importance of respecting and understanding differences, and living with gratitude.
Upon returning to Japan, I worked as an inbound tour guide and police interpreter for nine years. Through these experiences, I realized that many visitors experience Japan’s beauty but leave without truly understanding the culture, values, and spirit behind it. This realization led me to found Kaminokuni.
My mission is to create premium experiences that go beyond sightseeing, offering authentic cultural insight, thoughtful guidance, and the care I once wished for while I was abroad. I am committed to revealing the deeper layers of Japan through journeys guided by those who know Japan from within.
